I can actually say that I've never thought about this and I just assumed that everyone saw the same thing that I saw when I close my eyes. When I just close them to see the reaction at a time right now, I see gray. However, I know that in a dark room the only thing that I will see is black. I've also closed my eyes against the sun before and in that case I see a very deep red. I don't know what causes this, but I think that it might be the amount of ambient light that is travelling through our skin.

If you are in a bright light and see red it's the blood flow.

I heard seeing purple means your in a good state when meditating. I usually see black with white and red patches and sometimes a blob of purple.

You got the idea, when I close my eyes I meditate, so the colors that I see are chakras. If you meditate on these energy centers in the body you will become aware of a color associated with each. After so many years of doing this my mind goes first to the blue one. It's just the mind and it's tricks.

I see dark maroon. When I first close my eyes to go to sleep at night, I see flashes of lightening followed by scarlet. Isn't that strange? I wonder why you see bright blue. I also see spots at night that I like to follow, it helps me relax and go to sleep and if I follow them long enough they resolve into fascinating shapes.

hehe...it also happens to me...dancing shapes...and I think as dark is where no color is present so if we close eyes softly may be some light can goes to your eyes through retina and cornea..and we see the colors. There are 3 basic color..red, blue and yellow and when they are mixed to each other they create different colors. It may depend on how much light reflects on your eyes...generally hpw tightly or softly you close your eyes..

I all black sometimes but a lot of the time I see shades of light grey and white. There are no other colours when I close my eyes. I wonder what the different shades mean…I see colours when I think of certain words like the four seasons for example, spring is orange, summer is yellow, autumn is brown and winter is grey...

I think the color you see when you close your eyes is not the really color as you open your eyes as usual, bright blue is just the color you think in your brain at the same time.I will see red when I close my eyes most of time when I face the sunshine.Others will see different colors dosen't means that our eyes are different, but means that our image of thoughts when we close my eyes different,I think so.Anyway, may it ralates to someone's character or mood,it's another discussion. beeduzhe

The way I understand it individual colors do not exist, but are part of the visible spectrum which is the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum visible to the human eye. Electromagnetic radiation in this range of wavelengths is called visible light. When we see a green lawn, the grass is not green, but is just reflecting the green portion of the light spectrum. Many animals and birds do not see colors as we do. For instance, red flowers are relatively scarce in nature, because honeybees do not perceive the color red.

If you close your eyes facing sunlight then most probably than not , you will see red or something closer to that hue, if you close your eyes in total darkness or a dark room , then most probably you will see black. Bright blue??? Sorry I have no answer. with me I always see black

Hi savypat, I see black but there is also white light, much like I was in a house with windows. I don't see any other colours. Blessings.

What colour you see depends, to a certain extent, on the colour of the light and what you were looking at just before you closed your eyes. The retina has nerve endings (called 'cones') which are sensitive to three basic colours, red, yellow and blue and we see different colours by 'computing' the amounts and strengths of each colour in the image of an object. If our eyes had just been viewing a strongly lit object of a particular colour, say, red, the cones responsible are 'tired' and take a few moments to recover. When you close your eyes, you see an 'after image' of the complementary colour, in this case, blue and yellow which appear green. One explanation - and by no means the only one - for why you see a bright blue on closing your eyes is that, when you have noticed it, you may have been in a room with predominately orange-brown décor.

When I close my I see black, but it hasn't always been like that. As a child I saw many different colours when I closed my eyes. One day I told my mother about it and I mentioned the different colours that I saw, and she didn't get surpriced at all. She said that the colours we see when our eyes are closed have certain a name. She told me the name of this phenomenon, but I don't remember the word, and I have never heard the word as an adult. I have read that those colors appear sometimes during meditation, but I never meditated as a child, so meditation can't be the only reason.

I see a green tile pattern. Kind of a lime green color. I have never heard what causes this.

Now I see maroon..lol I also noticed the color differences. I think it happens because of how much pressures you put on your eyelid, sharpness of surrounding light, amount of water in your eyes, may be. When I'm in the sunlight if i close my eyes softly I see the orange color at first, if close slightly tight, I see red, if I move my eyes behind eyelid it becomes yellow, and when I close tightly it becomes dark red then turn to black. hehehe...I think it may be a part of afterimage. Afterimage is a visual image that persist after the visual stimulus causing it cease to act. You can learn more about afterimage from this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afterimage

I've no idea what causes this, but at a guess, I's say that it might be due to pressure in the eye affecting the colour recepors in your eyes. Perhaps you are squeezing your eyes shut and causing pressure. Personally, I just see black
